2020 - Message from our Saints President

To our Saints Family

YOU MADE IT. This crazy netball season is all wrapped up now and I hope that it provided some enjoyment for you and your daughters. We need to recognise the lengths that RNA went through to get this season off the ground and allow the girls to play. I want to especially mention our fabulous Club Secretary, Tanya Arathoon, who always does an amazing job, but this year took on the extra role of COVID officer which involved many extra tasks, such as keeping records of all our players over the season and during training. A special thanks to the parents and players who assisted with the COVID duties that allowed the season to go ahead. Thank you so much for your time, especially considering most of the age groups couldn’t have spectators, so you were unable to watch your children play most of this season.

This netball season every team played 7 games and then had a finals style playoff. Because of the COVID challenges, there were no adjustments with regards to grades, but we have made note so that our teams can be appropriately graded next year. The 1st and 2nd placed teams after the 7 games then had a grand final playoff. We had 7 teams who played in grand finals on Saturday with 4 wins (Saints Senior Blue, 14 Gold, 13 Blue & 11 Blue). We had another 6 teams who also got to finish the season with wins (Saints Senior Gold, 15 Blue, 13 Purple, 11 White, 11 Purple, 9 Blue and a draw for 11 Black). Well done to all the girls who played for Saints this season, we are glad that you represented our Club with great effort and in the spirit of the game. I hope you all enjoyed your time on the court and had a great season, even though it was shorter than usual.

I must recognise all our Coaches and Team Managers; we could not run the season every year without your help. So thank you for all you do to support our girls, including all the extra steps that had to be taken during this season.  To our umpires who we can’t play games without, thank you for your time and focus to ensure each game is played fairly.

We look forward to welcoming each of you back next year. Any aspiring girls who would like to assist next season, either in the role of coach or umpire, are most welcome to do so. We will put out calls for volunteers before next season commences.

I also need to thank my fellow committee members for their efforts which made our season as great as possible. Thank you, Tanya, Shayne, Brianna and Donna. Your support and guidance is always greatly appreciated. A special mention to Donna, who over the last 3 years, has been our registrar. This year she assisted our members with the My Netball site, transitioned us to organising our teams online and redid our website, making it so much better. Thank you, Donna, for your service and the time that you gave to the Club.

To all our Club families if you can help in any way, we would love to hear from you as many people make light work. Supporting the Saints Club is a very rewarding experience, working with a great team of volunteers. We would love you to join the team for next season, reach out to myself or any of the Committee members to discuss this further.

So thank you to everyone for all your patience and support through this crazy year, and we look forward to a ‘normal’ next season. We hope this year continues to get better and that everyone has a marvellous and safe Christmas with their families. We can’t wait to see you ready to play in the New Year.
