MANAGER INFO

Thank you for volunteering to manage a team!

As team manager you play an important role for the team. You will be the middle person between the club and the individual players, it is up to you to keep your team informed.

The coaches give up a lot of their time and put in a huge effort to run training sessions as well as be at the games each week so we would ask that as manager you do as much as you can to take the burden of organising away from your team’s coach.

All of the information below should be passed on to each parent and as manager we ask that you to coordinate the jobs that are needed to make your team and the club run smoothly.

If you need any further support or have any questions please email a member of the committee directly.

FORFEIT

If the other team forfeits the game by Friday evening, the Club Secretary will then contact the team manager to let them know.

Please note that one team member must still go to Heffron and submit the score card (in order to get competition points) listing at least 5 players from your team (no signatures required) and for the other team write “forfeit”. This is the responsibility of the team and someone should be appointed to do this job (preferably the manager). Please note: It is not the responsibility of the coach to do this.

If your team needs to forfeit (that is you do not have at least 5 players), the Club Secretary must be advised by Friday 5PM at the latest. If it is wet weather and the game is to be played the following week, the forfeit does not stand and the team will get to play that game.

SHORT OF PLAYERS

You can play a game with just 5 players (and a lot of confidence), however, a more advisable suggestion is to borrow a player from another team.

A “borrowed player” must be a registered member of Saints.

Players can only play up in age and division e.g. NO 11 year olds in 10’s and NO division 2 players in division 3 (if in same age group ) but you can have a 10yr old Division 2 play in 11yr old Division 3 – clear as mud.  Please plan in advance if you know you will be short by using your Manager/Coach contact list.

Be careful about using the same person all the time as once someone has played more than three games in another team they are considered part of that team and this will cause problems for their original team (invariably someone will lose competition points).

Please note players are only allowed to play one game per day so it is imperative that their name does not appear on TWO SCORECARDS in one day (don’t let the scorer automatically write up everyone’s name at beginning of match).

SCORING

  1. The first team mentioned in the draw is responsible for the collection of the scorecard (from the Control Centre) prior to the game and also for scoring the duration of the game. (The scorer normally stands at the centre line).

  2. If we are the second team mentioned in the draw – it is always recommended and the usual practice that one person from our team stands next to the person with the scorecard (from the other team) to ensure accuracy.

  3. Regardless of whom the scorer is:

  • Each team is responsible for ensuring their half of the scorecard is filled in correctly

  • Each team member’s name is in capitals

  • Each team member to sign scorecard (try to get them to use same signature every week - no love hearts or smiley faces or you will lose points)

  • Captain to sign

  • Manager to sign

  • Scorer to sign (only if we are official scorer)

  • Saints umpire’s signature

     4. Make sure card gets delivered back to control centre – usually the winners of the game.

A suggestion would be for you as manager to pull together a timetable and allocate a parent as scorer each week. Take care with the scorecard and make all parents/carers who score aware of the requirements – competition points are lost because of mistakes on scorecards.

Modified – Each team member’s name must be listed (signatures not required) and the “team officials” area needs to be filled in. Do not record the score on this card – Modified games should be noncompetitive, with no recorded scores.

Signature Cards (inters & seniors only) - Specimen signatures are required on the signature card on the first day of competition and are to be returned to the Control Centre immediately after the game. Any player who has not signed the signature card on the first day of the competition is required to do so at the Control Centre prior to playing. If a player plays without signing, this will be an incorrect score card.

Scorecards - In accordance with the Rules there shall be 2 scorers who shall keep a record of the centre passes. The first team mentioned in the fixture book is responsible for the collection of the scorecard from the Control Centre prior to the game and for scoring the duration of the game.

  1. Each team is responsible for the printing of the names of players, the signature of captain, umpire and scorer as well as players’ signatures on the front of the scorecard.

  2. Names of all interchanged players must also be written on the scorecard in the appropriate space. Each manager of a Junior team is responsible for the correct completion of the scorecard. The manager must also sign the scorecard.

  3. All scorecards are to be placed in the box provided in the Control Centre immediately after the conclusion of the game.

Point Score                 Loss of Points

Win = 2                       Incorrect scorecard = 1

Draw = 1                     *Unregistered player = 2

Loss = 0                      *Not complying with rules = 2 (ineligible player)

Bye =  2

* In these cases points will be awarded to the opposing team.

In the event of rules being broken by a losing team, 2 points will be deducted from the aggregate score.

UMPIRES

The cost of all umpires (except Senior games) is included in our registration fees.  This is done to avoid teams having to collect money and pay their umpires each week.

Umpires are generally Junior or Senior players with the Club and whilst they have a sound knowledge of the rules and endeavour to do their best, it should be remembered that ANY FORM of intimidation on the part of parents or supporters is NOT ACCEPTABLE and against our Club's Code of Conduct.  You may click through here to read.

COACHES

Please note that coaches are there to teach the girls netball skills and they are not at training to supervise and manage behaviour.

There should always be at least one parent, in addition to the coach, at training to assist in the management of girls especially in the younger age groups. In teams where the coaches are under 18yrs old – please do not allow parents to drop off/pick up they need to stay and assist with supervision of the girls. These girls are an asset to the club and should be supported.

FIRST AID

Every team should have some basic first aid supplies with them both at training and at the game – nail clippers, bandaids and maybe some gauze patches for scraped knees.

Ice is available from the Control Centre.

For major injuries please ensure that the injury book at the Control Centre is filled in for insurance purposes.
